In the United States, the time zone difference from coast to coast is three hours. Earlier this year, FIFA awarded its exclusive television broadcasts for FIFA World Cup 2026 to Telemundo, NBCUniversal’s Spanish-language TV network. The network paid $600 million for the rights. It already had the rights in the United States.

The deal will last four years and extend the media rights for the World Cup until 2026. It also covers FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023 and 2025 and FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024 and 2026. It will also feature two under-17 tournaments, beach soccer events and futsal events.

In Canada, CTV and TSN will broadcast World Cup matches. The Sporting Network is also authorized to cover matches in Canada.

The decision to award television broadcasts for FIFA World Cup 2026 came as a surprise. Although ESPN had been the incumbent rights holder, it had not been informed of the bid. It is unknown whether ESPN also wanted to bid for the rights.
